At Work

Founder

I founded a number of products and teams each with a big impact.

• OneAuth. Most recently I was the founding leader of OneAuth, the first party, cross platform, identity software development kit that is on a path to universal adoption by every major app at Microsoft.

• MATS. I was a founding manager of MATS, the Microsoft Authentication Telemetry System, a telemetry library and pipeline that enables apps to report on key authentication events.

• ICEBox. I also founded ICEBox, a diagnostics and customer support product that streamlines data mining, analytics, diagnostics, and response to customers reporting issues with authentication.

• Cortana People Experiences. I was the founding architect and manager of the people experiences in Microsoft's Cortana, which displays information about people you meet gathered from a wide range of data sources.

• Bing Data Modeling & Visualization. Finally, I was the founding engineer an lead of the data modeling and visualization effort in Bing that produced a number of products to monitor and diagnose the health and performance of the various services, components, and data centers of Bing.

I worked on a board range of products and technologies

• Big Data and Insights. I was involved in building data pipelines, deriving insights, and creating visualizations for understanding key performance indicators in Bing, data center and service health in Bing.

• Search, Relevance, Auto Suggest, & Browse. I delivered in Windows, Windows Store, and Windows Phone Store, breakthrough improvements in search result and auto suggest relevance leveraging, for the first time, Bing's API and search infrastructure.

• Developer Experiences. I worked on developer experiences and infrastructure for Microsoft app developers to do authentication, for Bing developers to sign up their apps, for XBOX data providers to supply their data required to power speech recognition and search, and for Google developers to search, look up, and cross reference large scale codebases.

• Integrated End to End User Experiences. The people experiences in Microsoft's Cortana and the identity experiences in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint were examples of end to end user experiences where my teams were responsible for the scenario even when we did not own many of the key pieces to the puzzle. Working across cultural boundaries, severely different technical standards and capabilities, we put together these pieces with great results.

Uncertainty & Steep Odds

I find that I thrive in uncertainty and situations where the odds are stacked against our success. Despite the anxiety that all this causes, I find that I am better engaged both emotionally and intellectually when faced with difficult adversity.

My anchor throughout is a balanced focus on customers, the needs of people around me, and our business objectives. Because I find they are most conducive to success, I am most passionate in environments that are action biased, nurture innovation, but that are also warm, inviting, and appreciative of diversity of perspective.
